On March 30th, 2025, X, formerly Twitter, suffered a substantial outage. This outage prevented users from accessing the core features of the application via the mobile app or website. According to downdetector.com, most users experienced issues starting at 9:30 am EST. By 10:00 pm, 7,700 users had reported outages via Downdetector. By 12:30 am EST, it seems the majority of users are back to using X with no issues, while some are still submitting reports of limited access.

Elon Musk and X have yet to respond to the ongoing issues. Many online speculate that this could be from a DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack. Given the types of politics Elon Musk has been involved in, hackers have been using this type of attack as a form of protest. Earlier this month, the group called “Dark Storm” claimed responsibility for a massive DDOS attack against X that prevented user access for hours. They also claimed responsibility for today’s outage and state that they will continue.
